Knitting software

Does anyone out there know about or have experience with a good knitting program that I can use for pattern making. I sit here with my pencil and graph paper, but it would sure be easier on a computer. And I am not thinking shape and size of a garment, but "Faroe Island" patterns etc. Actually, if it could make the shape and size also, it would OK. Happy for advice!!

I found this link tonight. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but you can upload a file and it will put the picture or design on graph paper for you.

I checked out a design program from my local library called "KNIT PRO". It was an older version, but it did just what you are looking for. You might want to check it out :)

Hope that helps,
Sue

I've been using Knit Visualizer for the Mac (there's a Windows version also), from Knit Foundry. It does not design the garment, but it generates pretty good charts. It took a little while to get the hang of the program, but I do like it. I've used it to create charts for a cable sweater. There is a free trial version on the Knit Foundry web site (knitfoundry.com), and it does everything the program does exept print, so you can see if you like it.
